Auditory shifts are a sensory experience-based shift characterized by the occurence in which oneself will shift due to sounds that occur around them. Oftentimes this will be seen to as a trauma response for spiritual therians who may have been injured or killed by the sound they hear in their past life. (e.g. oneself is a spiritual sheepkin killed by a wolf in their past life, has an auditory shift as a trauma response when hearing howling).[1] However, auditory shifts can occur to any alterhuman who experiences shifts, and is not limited to spiritual therians or just therians in general.[1]
Causes[]
As the name suggests, auditory shifts occur due to sounds that occur around oneself. Auditory shifts can occur due to:
- sounds of nature or things that may attract oneself's theriotype[1]
- trauma response from their past life, under spiritual therianthropy[1]
How to prevent negative auditory shifts[]
Due to some negative experiences that occur within auditory shifts, you can prevent auditory shifts by:
- Avoiding any triggers (e.g. in the forest where wolves are, then oneself would head on out.)
- Avoid engaging in oneself's theriotype's behavior
- Although quadrobics and vocals can help some alterhumans calm down, it is heavily suggested not to do quads or vocals when preventing a shift yet is suggested for voluntarily engaging in a shift as a stress reliever. Doing these can instead extend the shift and make it worse, considering you are entering the animalistic mindset and therefore are more cautious and afraid.
- Do the 3-3-3 Rule (looking around your environment to identify three objects and three sounds, then moving three body parts) or the 5-4-3-2-1 Grounding Rule (5 things you see, 4 things you feel, 3 things you hear, 2 things you smell and 1 thing you taste)
- Get help from another therian or a supporter you know that can help you prevent the shift
- Using special "code words" to prevent the shift (e.g. "red" when oneself notices the auditory shift, "yellow" when someone else notices oneself's auditory shift)[1]
