Fictherianthropy is the term commonly used to refer to a therian whose theriotype is a non-human animalistic creature from a fictional source.
And while both fictherians and theriomythics identify as creatures that don't exist in our world, the identities are significantly different. A theriomythics theriotype is a creature from cultural myths/legends or urban legend, while a fictherians theriotype is from a fictional work which was created with the purpose of being shown in that media. However, there can be (and is) an overlap between both identities.
It is also similar to the term 'fictionkin', the term used to refer to someone who identifies as a fictional character or species. The term fictherian is seen as an overlap of the therian and fictionkin communities.
Creation of the Term[]
The term was created by Tumblr user Indornaga on the 18th of February 2021. Creating the word through a mix of the words 'fiction' and 'therian'.
"A term to be used to describe one’s experiences of “animality”, as is described by the parent term “therian”, but signifying one’s source of experiences are not of this current earth."
They also expressed that they made the term partly to spite "elitist therians who insist that fictionkin can only possibly be human and not animalistic at all". Stating that the term was beneficial to both fictherians and earthen therians and that if a theriomythic feels that the fictional element of the identity fits them, they're able to use the label too.
