Gear is the collective name for the accessories a therian may use to express their therianthropy, or feel more like their theriotype. Gear is not what makes someone a therian, and it isn't a requirement to be a therian. Some non-therians wear gear without personally identifying as a therian or some other kind of non-human.
Examples of gear[]
Some examples of gear include:
- Body parts that are similar to one's theriotype, e.g. tails, ears, paws
- Animal masks (commonly referred to as "therian masks")
- Accessories made of faux or real fur (it is heavily suggested that anything made of real fur is sourced ethically). This may also be done for scales or feathers.
- Makeup indicative of one's theriotype, e.g. winged eyeliner for a lynx theriotype, colorful eyeshadow matching the feathers of a bird theriotype, spots or striped makeup for a big cat theriotype.
- Pins, lanyards, jewellery, collars, bracelets, or stickers that have the pattern or drawings of your theriotype, or the Theta-Delta symbol.
- Shoes and or socks that look like paws.
- T-shirts of your theriotype, these are considered to be the earliest gear used by therians
Taxidermy Tails[]
Asian-based/owned companies (like Amazon, Temu and Shein) are known to sell cruel fur farm tails. Cruel fur farms inhumanely kill and abuse the animals in the farms, and they are also starved and malnourished. It is highly advised that anyone wanting a tail doesn't purchase one from a fur farm, as it supports their actions. Tails from Finland are commonly from fur farms, too.
The best site to buy ethical taxidermy tails is Etsy, but it's best to look into where sellers source their taxidermy to ensure you're not supporting a fur farm.
