Vacillant therianthropy is a subcategory of therianthropy that was originally coined/created in 2004/05.[1]
The word 'vacillant' means to waver, and this term is used in the levels of integration to describe when a therianthrope's shifts occur smoothly, as if they function on a slowly moving sliding scale, instead of starting and ending abruptly like many other therians. A vacillant therianthrope is described by the levels of integration as being;
"a therian whose animalness and humanness are largely blobbed together into one big mental soup, but their existence is such that one may still come to the front of the mind noticeably more strongly than the other, as needed or as desired."
However, unexpected stimuli may still trigger sharper or more sudden shifts for them.
